  About the Owner

Many of you keep asking me about the aviation art in my home. So I figure it might be a good time to tell you a bit about myself so that you have an idea whose home you are visiting while you relax in Tahoe.

My dad was an aviation officer candidate and never realized his dream of flying because World War II ended while he was in flight school at Keesler Field in Mississippi. Somehow dad still ended up in Europe in uniform for a few months and met my mom, a German girl from Hamburg. The rest is pretty predictable as they ended up settling down in Europe after the war. I was born in Switzerland in 1968 and that’s where we lived until the school system decided at the age of 10 that I was destined to attend some kind of welding vocational school. I knew I wanted to fly so my parents decided to give me another chance and we moved back to the United States in 1980.

I attended Middle School and High School in Bellingham, Washington from 1980-1987. The U.S. school system, while imperfect, was the second chance I longed for. The movie 'An Officer and a Gentleman' fueled my dream to fly for the Navy. I finally got that chance when I received a congressional nomination to attend the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland. The four years at the Academy were the hardest and most rewarding years of my life.

After graduation in 1991 I served as an interpreter for NATO for 6 months before reporting to Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, for flight training. My favorite instructor pilots were all airline pilots and they encouraged me to follow the same course. So I decided to fly the largest jet in the Navy. After 9 years as a Navy Pilot I finally got the opportunity to fly for the largest airline in the world, United Airlines. What a thrill, it was the dream job I had always imagined it would be. But all that changed on the 11th of September, 2001. After only 2 years I lost my flying job along with 2000 other United pilots. I tried selling pharmaceuticals for a year but nothing comes close to the camaraderie and professionalism you see in the cockpit. After a year of applying I was finally accepted to fly the C-5B Galaxy for the Air Force Reserves at Travis AFB. Life was good again and it’s been an amazing 6 years of flying missions to all corners of the world. Since April of 2003 I’ve flown over 142 combat missions into Iraq and other war torn regions of the world.

P.S. In 2011 I finally married the love of my life Jennifer. She now manages the day to day operations of my rentals while I focus on flying. Please email her on the Reserve Now tab and she'll get you all set up for a great Tahoe Vacation.

Yours,

Larry
